Latest, Greatest Playaways!

This summer 26 new Playways have been added to the Ritz Library's growing audio book collection. Easy, portable and simple to use, Playaways are about the size of an old-fashioned audio cassette, but instead of having to insert 10 cassettes while listening to a book on tape, the entire book is contained on one device.  Run on batteries, Playaways weigh next to nothing and fit easily in a back pocket. Any standard headphones fit the jack.  Besides the devices themselves, the Ritz Library provides you with batteries, headphones and even an audio cable for your car if you do not have one.

Summer time and the database choices are growing!

The Ritz recently added seven new databases to its menu of electronic resources. All are basically periodical databases, containing articles from magazines, newspapers and journals, although some have ebooks as well. Use the links below to try them out and give us your feedback

  Articles on all aspects of applied science from more than 220 periodicals dating back to 1992

  Full text of articles from over 350 journals from 1996 on. Features cross-referenced names of educational tests
• Energy & Power Source
  Contains energy industry articles, benchmarks, & best practices selected from trade and industry publications.
• Entrepreneurial Studies Source
• Articles from more than 125 key periodicals. Also contains 135 reference books & over 600 videos
• Humanities Full Text
• Full-text articles from over 330 journals published as far back as 1910.
• LGBT Life with FullText
• Articles from 130 of the most important LGBT periodicals, as well as more than 170 ebooks

ebrary goes Android!!

One of the Ritz Library's most popular databases, ebrary, which offers books in electronic format, is now accessible on both Apple handheld devices and Android devices!! 


Use it to search for books for an assignment you're working on, or simply to find something to read for leisure. You can also download books to your mobile device for a limited period of time - just like borrowing a book from the library!

The app for Apple users (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch) is available through the app store/itunes.

Wireless Printing in the Library

Did you know that you can print from a laptop in the Ritz Library?  Well, you can! The following documents can be uploaded from a laptop to the printer:

• Microsoft Word 
• Microsoft Excel
• Microsoft Powerpoint
• Adobe PDF

If you are working in some other format, you will have to convert your document to one of these supported formats.  

To print, go to http://webprint.sunydutchess.edu.  Logon using your myDCC user id. Select Upload files to print. Click on Choose files. Browse and upload the file to the printer. Select Upload files. You can pick up your print out from any of the Qube printers on campus.  3 printers may be found in the Ritz Library. You must have your id to release the jobs. 

Printing in the Library

With the advent of the Xerox Qubes across campus, it is essential that you have your id card in order to print.  There are 3 printers located within the library from which you can release jobs. Two are located up front, close to the reference desk, and one is located towards the back of the library, before the rear computers.

Films on Demand Enhancements!!

The Ritz's video streaming service, Films on Demand, has just added several new features that give you more options when  using this system for research.

Citing programs in Films on Demand becomes more comprehensive through the addition of APA style to the menu of documentation methods already available. You can now toggle between APA, MLA and Chicago citations for every film or segment. As always you should double check these computer generated citations with the information that appears on the Ritz's Citation Style Guide or the Little Brown Handbook.

The other new feature uses Google Translate to make  Films on Demand accessible to users of any language.  It appears as a drop down menu  at the bottom right of each page. Once you pick a language, all the text on the screen is  translated into that language. This feature also becomes enabled for the interactive transcripts of each program.

We're trying out a new ebook collection

The Ritz Library is running a trial of a database with over 70,000 electronic books. Called the EBSCO ebook Academic Collection, this system contains titles that focus on the research needs of college students. Books can be read online using a pc, tablet or smartphone.
