During the first week of December, Library classroom H224 will be available to all DCC students for internet, word-processing and database use. The room will be open from 9:30 until 4:30, with a Librarian there to assist you with research or computer questions.

The Library "Z" Drive

Accidentally left your thumb drive at home?

Don't feel like taking a chance with a floppy disk?

Then you should try storing your work on the Library's network space. It's accessible from every single computer in the Library and won't be erased after a reboot. You can even use it when you need to email a document you've created on one of the word processing machines in the back of the library. Just save your work in the Library Z drive (usually the last option on the drop-down menu), find an available internet computer in the front, access your email account, and then attach the file from the z drive to your email. It may even be a good place to keep a back-up copy of your work. The z drive is cleaned out once at the end of every semester.

RITZ LIBRARY ANNIVERSARY

The Francis U. & Mary F. Ritz Library is happy to join in DCC's 50th Anniversary celebration.

The library opened in 1958 in Bowne Hall with approximately 3,000 books. Today, we occupy the 2nd and 3rd floors of Hudson Hall and maintain a collection of 80,000 books and over 336 magazine, journal and newspaper subscriptions. We also offer a growing array of electronic resources.

Join us in the anniversary festivities. Visit the library display case located on the 3rd floor of Hudson Hall and view photographs and documents related to our library history.

Careers!!

Students: If you are working on an assignment that requires you to research a career, especially one related to your field of study here at the college, we have some resources we'd like to recommend:

The Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH for short, both in paper & online here) is a great source for information on just about any career you can think of. Articles on career fields contain invaluable info such as salary expectations, necessary training, and job prospects (IE, how likely you are to get a job in that field).

The Encyclopedia of Careers & Vocational Guidance is much like the OOH but contains articles that are more extensive.

Two websites I can suggest are:

The Riley Guide - a great source that helps you plan your job search properly.

America’s Job Bank - This site will direct you to a state-by-state search.

Use these sites to find information about salary rates and education expectations of employers.

Writing Center Workshop

The Writing Center is running a workshop on Research Writing Basics—defining a topic, gathering information, evaluating and integrating sources, editing and revising, MLA/APA formatting and citations on Thursday, November 8th, 12-1:45pm in H-507.

The workshop is applicable to any discipline.
